Islamabad: Federal Minister for IT Shiza Fatima, while addressing a press conference, stated that the next month’s auction of 5G spectrum is going to take place. The effort is to conduct the 5G auction under the best possible conditions.
She said that the spectrum auction is happening on seven bands. Five of these bands are being auctioned in Pakistan for the first time. Two bands have already been auctioned.
The Minister of IT also added that there are very few 5G-supported mobiles in Pakistan, and work will also be done on upgrading mobile phones for this purpose.
Moreover, she mentioned that six months after the 5G auction, there will be a noticeable improvement in the internet system.
Shiza Fatima further stated that after the Ufone and Telenor merger, there are now three companies left in the country. The arrival of a Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) will bring more companies and investment opportunities.
She said that Pakistan is going to become a part of the MVNO market, and PTA has approved fiberisation at the district level. Now cable operators can also obtain CVS licenses to deliver the internet to the citizens.
Furthermore, the minister mentioned that in the past few years, we have brought 3 submarine cables to Pakistan, which demonstrates our commitment to improving the internet in the country.
