ITP announces Friday diversion plan to ensure public order

ITP diversion plan

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) announced a diversion plan for Friday, October 10, to manage security and congestion during a protest.

Restrictions take effect from 10:00am and will remain in place until the protest concludes.

Commuters are advised to avoid non-essential travel through affected corridors and follow posted detours.

Heavy vehicles

  • From Lahore to Islamabad: Diverted from Islamabad Expressway toward Rawalpindi.
  • From Peshawar to Islamabad: Rerouted via Srinagar Highway toward Chungi No. 26 (Rawalpindi side).
  • From Murree: Directed toward Rawalpindi corridors.
  • IJP Road: Closed to heavy traffic.

Light vehicles (preferred routes)

  • Rawalpindi to Islamabad: Use Srinagar Highway, 9th Avenue, and linked city corridors; avoid IJP/Murree Road near the event zone.
  • Islamabad to Rawalpindi: Use 9th Avenue → IJP Road (light vehicles only) and connecting corridors; avoid restricted segments.
  • Faizabad/Murree Road users: Take Stadium Road and 6th Road, then connect to 9th Avenue/IJP.
  • Zero Point / G-7–G-9 to Rawalpindi: Prefer Srinagar Highway or 9th Avenue.
  • I-8 / I-9 / I-10 sectors: Use internal sector links to reach 9th Avenue/IJP; avoid event-adjacent approaches.
  • Airport access: Prefer Islamabad Expressway.
  • Peshawar Road to Islamabad: Take Golra Morr to Srinagar Highway (avoid IJP for heavy traffic).

Regulated segments & slow zones

Flows around CDA Interchange and 9th Avenue will be controlled; expect managed diversions near F-8 to F-10 and G-9 to G-11 corridors, especially around F-9/central routes. Follow on-ground police guidance.
