Major blow for JAAC: Core committee member Anjum Zaman Awan parts ways

JAAC member Anjum Zaman Awan parts ways

The banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has suffered another setback after core committee member Anjum Zaman Awan announced his disassociation from the organisation.

In a video message, Awan rejected what he described as the committee’s politics of unrest and urged young people to return to positive and constructive political engagement.

Addressing the youth, Awan said they were being misled by slogans of separation and autonomy, alleging that anti-Pakistan forces were working behind such narratives.

“Some elements are misleading the youth. Anti-Pakistan agencies and hidden interests are operating behind these elements,” he claimed.

Awan said the direction of what began as a peaceful movement had been altered, pushing young people toward actions that could damage their future.

“I announce my complete disassociation from the destructive politics of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC),” he said.

He appealed to young people not to become part of any group or organization that, in his view, promotes an anti-Pakistan agenda, and instead focus on constructive political participation.

Awan is not the first senior member to distance himself from the organization. Earlier, core committee member Amjad Ali Khan Advocate also announced his disassociation from the banned JAAC.

According to analysts, Awan’s statement has exposed internal divisions within the organisation and brought its alleged disruptive agenda into the spotlight. They said his rejection of narratives against Pakistan and the Pakistan Army reflects growing differences among the committee’s former leadership.

Analyst Mona Khan said that India is aware that the solution to the Kashmir issue lies with Pakistan and is therefore attempting to create unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir through the banned Action Committee.
