The Jaecoo J8 PHEV has recently been spotted in Pakistan, suggesting that the model could be introduced locally in the near future.
A new plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle may soon enter Pakistan’s growing hybrid car market.
The vehicle is expected to be brought by NexGen Auto, a subsidiary of the Nishat Group.
However, the company has not yet made an official announcement about the launch.
Jaecoo J8
Jaecoo is part of China’s Chery Automobile, which has expanded its presence in several international markets in recent years.
The J8 plug-in hybrid shares its platform and hybrid system with the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV.
Both models are built on Chery’s T1X platform and use a similar plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Industry observers say the arrival of the model in Pakistan could reflect the growing demand for hybrid and electrified vehicles in the country.
Global rollout of J8
The Jaecoo J8 first appeared in several international markets in 2025, including Australia and Malaysia, where it was introduced with a turbocharged petrol engine.
The plug-in hybrid version is now being introduced in additional markets.
It is currently available in Indonesia and has also been unveiled or opened for bookings in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Europe and Australia.
Size and design
The J8 PHEV is positioned as a large seven-seat SUV with a 2+3+2 seating configuration.
According to international specifications, the vehicle measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
These dimensions place it among the larger SUVs in the hybrid segment.
Globally, the J8 plug-in hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine paired with a multi-motor system and a dedicated hybrid transmission.
The combined output is reported to reach around 530 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, supported by an all-wheel-drive system designed to improve traction and performance.
If introduced locally, the model would enter Pakistan’s premium hybrid SUV category.
Possible competition in Pakistan
In the local market, the J8 PHEV would likely compete with high-end hybrid SUVs such as the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV, which currently has an ex-factory price of around Rs13.7 million.
Automobile analysts say the arrival of new hybrid SUVs could broaden consumer choices as the country gradually shifts toward more fuel-efficient and electrified vehicles.
