Purchase of petrol, diesel vehicles banned

The Punjab government has decided to impose a complete ban on the purchase of petrol and diesel vehicles for government departments.

According to officials, the decision has been taken to promote environmentally friendly transport in the province.

Under the new policy, government departments will only be allowed to buy electric or hybrid vehicles in the future.

However, vehicles used for field duties will be exempt from the ban.

The Chief Secretary of Punjab said promoting green energy is a top priority and that a new electric vehicle policy will be introduced soon.

He also said that approval for new petrol pumps will now be linked to the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

No new petrol pump will be allowed to operate without an EV charging facility.

In addition, installing EV charging units has been made mandatory for 170 new petrol pumps that have already received no-objection certificates (NOCs).

These NOCs were issued through the e-Biz portal for petrol pumps in 31 cities across Punjab.
