Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from Sanae Takaichi, PM Japan, today.
During their warm and cordial conversation, the two leaders discussed the recently held Islamabad Talks between the United States and Iran, hosted by Pakistan.
Prime Minister Takaichi appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating the ceasefire and talks. She expressed Japan’s full support for the peace process and its importance for regional stability and global energy security.
While thanking the Japanese Prime Minister for her good wishes, the Prime Minister said that he was grateful to both the U.S. and Iranian delegations for their extensive discussions in Islamabad and said that Pakistan would continue with its efforts to ensure that the ceasefire is maintained.
The Prime Minister expressed his desire to further strengthen Pakistan-Japan bilateral cooperation, which was reciprocated by the Japanese Prime Minister as well. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination.
Earlier today, sources revealed that PM Shehbaz Sharif is expected to travel to Riyadh within the next 48 hours after receiving an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to media reports.
During his visit to Saudi Arabia, a long-time ally of Pakistan, the premier is likely to discuss key regional and global developments, reflecting ongoing diplomatic coordination between the two nations.
The trip comes after recent high-level talks held in Islamabad, which marked the first direct meeting between the US and Iran in over a decade and the most significant engagement since the Iranian Revolution.
The prime minister will be accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is also expected to join the delegation in Riyadh, subject to the completion of his ongoing visit to the United States.
