Jazz, Pakistan’s largest mobile network operator, is facing renewed complaints from customers saying that they get unauthorised balance deduction from their accounts without clear consent.

Many users report small daily charges linked to value-added services (VAS), while others say they have lost larger amounts in a short period of time.

Some customers claim they never knowingly subscribed to any additional services.

Jazz has previously denied any systemic wrongdoing. The company says charges only apply to services that have been activated.

However, the issue continues to draw attention on social media and in consumer forums.

What are users reporting?

Several customers say their balance drops by Rs70 to Rs80 a day. Others report sudden deductions of Rs500 or more.

Some of these charges are linked to auto-activated VAS subscriptions. These can include daily content alerts, third-party services or other micro-subscriptions.

In some cases, users say activations were triggered by promotional messages, short codes or recharge processes.

According to data shared earlier by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Jazz recorded 3,799 complaints in March 2025 alone.

The company was also subject to an audit for the financial year 2023-24 involving Rs 6.58bn in overcharge observations.

Jazz has maintained that it complies with regulations and that customers can check and manage subscriptions through official channels.

How to check and stop deductions

Customers who suspect unauthorised deductions can take a few steps:

  • Monitor your balance regularly to spot unusual changes.
  • Dial *6611# to check active VAS subscriptions. Follow the menu and select option 3 to unsubscribe from unwanted services.
  • Dial *227# to review deduction history.
  • Contact the Jazz helpline at 111 for support.
  • File a complaint through the PTA’s online portal at ‘pta.gov.pk’ if the issue is not resolved.

The PTA says it reviews consumer complaints and, in some cases, customers have received refunds after investigations.

Regulator responds to public concerns

On the other hand, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a clarification addressing recent concerns circulating on social media about mobile tariffs, service quality, and unauthorised deductions.

PTA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumer rights while promoting a fair and transparent telecom market.

Reignition of debate

A viral post by content creator Komail Muaviah on February 21, 2026, reignited outrage, with social media echoing similar issues.

In his post at X, he said, “Jazz has shown the package price as Rs 2300 on its app, but when I subscribed to the package, it was not activated.

“It says load Rs 2800, and then it will be activated. I activated the above package for Rs 2800 3 days ago, social media is not working, if I look at the Simosa app, I see 158GB of data, but it is not working at all”, he added.

Another user replied to his post by saying, “This is true, I also had such a balance cut. When I logged into the Simosa app, I found out that 6 different things were active that I had never used, and money was being deducted for them.”

He further said, “If I use the rest of the net packages, nothing works. It works fine from 2 am to 5 am. Then even a single WhatsApp message can hardly be sent throughout the day. The world has gone beyond 5G, and we are just robbing the public in the name of money.”
