Jinnah Super: Another Incident
In the past, a devastating fire broke out at an international shoe outlet in Jinnah Super Market, Islamabad, on November 11, 2013.
The harsh fire sent thick smoke billowing from the store, causing panic among visitors.
Around 7:45 pm, crowds could be seen rushing in the opposite direction for safety, as per media reports.
Eyewitness Ahadullah, a beggar, said, “On top of the huge fire, cars stuck in the traffic jam kept honking, making the situation even more confusing.”
A staff member of the store explained that the incident occurred by coincidence.
According to him, one of the employees had gone to the storeroom and noticed burning wires connected to the spotlights on the store’s hoardings.
The small fire, which started around 8:00 pm, quickly escalated and engulfed the entire shop.
A snooker club located above the outlet also caught fire, but fortunately, no one was injured as it was closed at the time.
The 45-minute blaze caused extensive damage, destroying most of the property.
The shop suffered losses estimated at Rs 8 to 9 million, but it is expected to be renovated in a few weeks with improved wiring.
Neighbouring shops closed their shutters to minimise damage. Another eyewitness, Shaukat Khan, noted that the adjacent stores could have suffered similar losses had the fire brigade not arrived promptly.
