Johnny Depp fans have now been given fresh hope of the actor returning as the titular character Jack Sparrow in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, according to reports, as he could be brought back for the sixth instalment of the franchise.

Media reports suggest that Depp may be considered for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and that the screenplay for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is also making good progress.

Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has stated that they are in talks with the actor.

Bruckheimer stated Disney was in talks with Depp and hoped it would eventually progress, during the Disney D23 conference.

His remarks have brought back hope to the fans of Jack Sparrow who have longed to see him on big screen.

Depp’s first appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow was in the 2003 blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

His irreverent jokes, bizarre physical gestures and gritty acting soon made the character world famous and earned him a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.

The actor then reprised the role in four other movies, his last being the 2017 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

For several years plans have been in the works for a sixth film, with Disney contemplating various story ideas and methods to resurrect or extend the franchise.

But Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in the preliminary stages of production.

Should the talks succeed, the return of Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow could be a huge boost to the much-awaited sequel and create a stir among fans eager to see the iconic pirate once more.
