Journalist gunned down in Sindh

MIRPUR MATHELO: A local journalist Tufail Rind was tragically gunned down in an armed attack on Wednesday morning while he was taking his children to school.

Tufail Rind, a senior journalist and Mirpur Mathelo Press Club’s General Secretary, was shot dead while his 10-year-old niece, Rina also died due to trauma later at the hospital.

According to police, Rind was taking children to school when unidentified gunmen opened fire on his motorcycle near Masoo Wah on Jirwar Road. The other children remained unharmed.

He died on the spot, and his body was shifted to DHQ Hospital Mirpur Mathelo. Police said an investigation has been launched.

Ghotki journalists have condemned the incident and have called for immediate arrest of the killers.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the journalist’s killing, calling attacks on media professionals “an assault on press freedom.” He directed the Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report.

TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED

According to SSP Ghotki Anwar Khetran, two suspects have been arrested in this case. He stated that once the victim’s family registers a case, the accused will be formally arrested.

According to SSP Khetran, Tufail Rind had a dispute with members of his own community.

He added that a person had claimed responsibility for Rind’s killing on social media, and the police are working to trace and arrest the suspect using technical means.
