Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced the postponement of nationwide protests on Friday at the government’s request.
While announcing the postponement, Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that guests from around the world, including Iran and the United States, will be visiting Islamabad starting tomorrow.
Therefore, the protests scheduled for Friday are being postponed. He urged party workers to attend the Mardan rally on April 12, where the future course of action will be announced.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence to discuss the country’s political situation and the Iran-US ceasefire. During the meeting, the Interior Minister requested Maulana Fazlur Rehman to postpone Friday’s protests.
Before this, Rana Sanaullah and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also held talks with Maulana Fazlur Rehman. During these meetings, the JUI-F chief demanded a reduction in petrol prices from the government delegation, who assured him that petrol prices would be further lowered in the coming days.
It is worth mentioning here that Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has earlier announced that his party will hold nationwide protest demonstrations next Friday in response to the recent surge in petroleum prices.
Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar, Fazlur Rehman said the JUI Central Majlis-e-Shura recently held a two-day meeting to review the domestic and international situation.
He added that the hike in fuel prices has disrupted the lives of ordinary citizens and triggered the party’s decision to mobilise protests.
He said that the recent rise in petroleum prices has shaken everyone, disturbed the peace of ordinary citizens, and prompted the party to organise protest demonstrations next Friday.
He further stated that domestic violence, issues related to transgender rights, the ban on marriage under the age of 18, and other laws contrary to Sharia should be abolished. Preparations are also being made to grant wives a 50 per cent share in their husbands’ property.
