K-Electric assures no loadshedding during heatwave in Karachi

Electricity prices likely to increase

K-Electric has assured an uninterrupted power supply during the ongoing heatwave as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued an alert for Karachi and advised authorities to take necessary measures to reduce the impact of extreme temperatures.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the utility is fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand and remains committed to maintaining a stable power supply.

He added that field teams are on high alert to quickly address any faults while urging citizens to stay informed and follow heatwave safety guidelines. He also noted that KE is coordinating closely with civic agencies to ensure an effective response during the crisis.

The power utility announced that loadshedding has been suspended during the heatwave, highlighting that around 70 per cent of the city is already exempt from power outages.

KE has also advised residents to take precautionary measures, including avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities between 11 am and 4 pm, the peak heat hours. Citizens are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear light and breathable clothing and protect themselves from direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that hot weather conditions will persist in Karachi over the next 24 hours.

According to the Met Office, the city will experience clear skies and hot weather during the day, while occasional strong winds may also sweep through parts of the city.

The department said that the maximum temperature reached 38.5°C.

It further stated that heat intensity is expected to increase further from today, with temperatures likely to reach 40°C on Sunday (Today) and 41°C on Monday.

The Met Office warned that most districts of Sindh will continue to experience hot, very hot and dry weather conditions. The central and upper parts of the province are expected to remain under heatwave conditions until today.

It added that temperatures in Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki and Sanghar are likely to remain 4 to 6°C above normal. Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana and Sukkur are also expected to remain affected by heatwave conditions.
