KARACHI: In a major development, the partial closure of one of Pakistan’s busiest airports, Jinnah International Airport Karachi, has been announced.
The Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) stated that the main runway will remain closed for three hours daily over the next 20 days to facilitate the construction of a new taxiway.
“Runway 7R/25L at Karachi airport will remain closed from November 5 to November 24, between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM each day. The temporary closure is part of an ongoing project aimed at improving airside infrastructure and ensuring smoother aircraft movement at Pakistan’s busiest airport,” the NOTAM added.
However, the statement clarified that during the closure period, the runway at Karachi airport will still be made available in case of VVIP flights or emergency landings.
Officials added that operations on other runways will continue as normal, and no major flight disruptions are expected during the maintenance schedule.
In a separate development, the completion date of the much-awaited greenline project has been announced.
As per details, the date was announced by the Federal government spokesperson for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq Ansari during his interview with a private media outlet.
He said that the work on Karachi’s long-delayed Green Line project will resume soon, bringing much-awaited relief to the city’s residents.
Khaleeq stated that a detailed meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House, during which all aspects of the Green Line project were reviewed. He confirmed that the unfinished work identified by the local government will be completed promptly.
The spokesperson termed it “good news for citizens,” saying that although the project has faced a delay of about a month, it is now expected to be completed by September 2026.
