The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast the possibility of rain in Karachi on Eid ul Fitr, with chances of thunderstorms in the city and its outskirts on Saturday.

According to the Met Office weather update, Friday (today) is expected to remain mostly sunny. However, the department had earlier predicted moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms on Thursday, along with a noticeable drop in temperature.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Karachi on Thursday night, disrupting routine life across the metropolis.

Areas including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, North Karachi, SITE, Manghopir, and Nusrat Bhutto Colony received torrential showers. Similar conditions were reported in Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, and the FB Area.

Several key localities such as Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Lyari, Kharadar, and parts of the Old City area were inundated with rainwater following the intense spell.

The rain also affected Clifton and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), while parts of District East, including Korangi, Landhi, Malir, the Airport area, and Shahrah-e-Faisal, experienced heavy downpours.

In addition, a hailstorm was reported in parts of Keamari, adding to the severity of the weather conditions.

It is important to mention here that the death toll from heavy rains in Karachi reached 19.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of a tragic building collapse in Mawachh Goth, one of several deadly incidents reported during the downpour.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds swept across parts of the city on Wednesday night, leading to multiple casualties due to collapsing walls and roofs.

In Baldia Town’s Mawachh Goth, rescue teams have recovered 13 bodies from a collapsed structure, while search operations remain ongoing amid fears that more people are trapped under the debris. Officials stated that several victims had taken shelter in the building during the storm, with reports suggesting many were drug addicts.

Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab visited the site to oversee operations. Lanjar directed maximum efforts to rescue any survivors, while Wahab ordered immediate medical assistance for the injured.
