Karachi continues to face prolonged electricity load-shedding, with residents in several areas reporting extended and, at times, unannounced power cuts amid growing public frustration and protests.
The official K-Electric load-shed schedule shows multiple areas across the city are subjected to four load-shedding cycles a day, with several feeders facing around 12 hours of scheduled outages.
According to the schedule applicable in November 2026, load-shedding is determined at the feeder level based on electricity losses, including theft and non-payment of bills. K-Electric also notes that the timings may vary slightly.
Areas facing prolonged power cuts
Several feeders in Baldia, Lyari, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Malir, Gulistan-e-Johar and other parts of Karachi have four separate load-shedding cycles listed in the schedule.
For example, the Mominabad feeder in Baldia has outages scheduled from 7:35am to 10:35am, 11:35am to 3:05pm, 4:05pm to 6:35pm and 8:05pm to 11:05pm — adding up to around 12 hours of scheduled cuts.
In Lyari, several feeders, including Lyari Telephone Exchange, Alvi Road and Jumma Baloch, have four three-hour load-shedding cycles spread throughout the day.
Similarly, several Liaquatabad feeders face four daily outages, with some schedules extending into late-night hours.
Protests over prolonged outages
The extended power cuts have sparked protests in several Karachi neighbourhoods, including Mowach Goth, Baldia Town and parts of Liaquatabad, where residents have taken to the streets and blocked roads over electricity outages.
The issue has also drawn political attention, with a Sindh Assembly special committee questioning K-Electric officials over unannounced load-shedding.
How K-Electric determines load-shedding
K-Electric says its load-shedding is based on the proportion of losses recorded at the feeder level. The company says feeders are assessed according to electricity theft and non-payment of bills, with areas classified as high- or low-loss feeders.
Consumers can check their feeder and scheduled load-shedding timings through the KE Live app under the Power tab or by calling 118. The November 2026 schedule also warns that localised faults involving PMTs or feeders can cause additional outages.
