Karachi: Fire breaks out at factory in SITE

A major fire broke out at a factory in SITE on Thursday evening, leading authorities to dispatch fire tenders throughout Karachi.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Hassaanul Haseeb Khan initially stated that a report regarding a fire at a textile facility near Nauras Chowrangi was received at approximately 6:15 PM.

“Fire tenders have been summoned across the city as the fire has been classified as a third-degree blaze,” he said.

The Rescue 1122 official also mentioned that the affected factory was a clothes-dyeing unit, noting that chemicals were stored on the premises.

However, he confirmed that no casualties had been reported thus far.

Sindh police brings factory fire under control

Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho also acknowledged the incident and instructed personnel to immediately arrive at the scene, secure the area, and ensure the safety of the surrounding locations.

The IGP further directed officials to create a clear route for the fire brigade and rescue teams.

Khan later reported that the factory fire was brought under control by around 10 PM, utilising 12 fire tenders and two snorkels during the efforts of Karachi police.

He suggested that the fire likely originated from a short circuit, adding that the blaze had caused damage to the factory and the materials stored within.

Keamari SSP Ajmad Ahmed Shaikh confirmed in a statement that the fire had been extinguished and that the cooling process had commenced.

Sindh CM orders inquiry into cause of fire

In a separate development, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah ordered Karachi police to determine the cause of the factory fire.

According to an official statement, he also mandated a thorough audit of all factories within the province.

He further emphasised that chemical safety protocols must be strictly enforced in industrial facilities, and actions should be taken against those who store chemicals without proper authorisation.

He finally insisted that fire safety and chemical storage practices should be reviewed in factories, and an inspection initiative for all industrial units should be launched.
