Karachi: SBCA officers face action for illegal constructions

Web desk: SBCA officers are facing action after they were found to be involved in allowing illegal constructions across Karachi, on Thursday.

The SBCA says these buildings have been constructed under the officers’ supervision. But these are unsafe and pose a threat to human life.

Similar notices have now been issued in four more districts after show-cause notices were sent to SBCA staff in District South. These districts include West, East, Malir, and Central.

In total, 193 officers, including deputy directors, building inspectors, engineers, and architects, have received notices.

District East had the most notices with 116. After it, the Central has 57, Malir has 16, and the West has 14.

Officials have been asked to respond within 7 days. If they fail to reply, they may even face suspension or dismissal.

Both residential and commercial buildings were built under their supervision. They used fake site plans without safety approvals or completion certificates.

The SBCA has called these illegal constructions a threat to human life. Many of these buildings lack basic safety and structural design.

Section 144 imposed in Karachi

In a separate development, the Karachi administration imposed Section 144 for two days to maintain law and order during the New Year celebrations.

The Commissioner of Karachi issued an official notification for two days.

According to the order, aerial firing, display of weapons, use of fireworks, and double riding on motorcycles are banned across the city.

Fireworks will only be permitted at locations officially approved by the authorities.
