A fire broke out on Monday at Imtiaz Superstore located on Zamzama Street in Clifton’s Defence Phase 5, near Zamzama Park, Karachi.
The fire caused panic among shoppers and resulting in a stampede in the surrounding area, according to rescue officials.
Fire brigade teams responded quickly, dispatching six fire tenders to bring it under control. Initial reports revealed that the fire started from an ATM on the first floor of the store due to a short circuit before spreading to nearby sections, including areas housing crockery, cosmetics, and clothing.
Rescue operations were hampered by thick smoke and darkness in the basement, making it difficult for teams to access affected areas.
Officials on-site said crews used hydraulic cutters to break through access points to reach potentially trapped individuals and contain the fire.
Store staff initially tried to control the flames using portable fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful as the fire rapidly intensified before emergency responders arrived. Despite the scale of the incident, police and rescue authorities confirmed that no casualties have been reported.
