KARACHI: The body of child who fell into an uncovered manhole near Karachi’s Nipa Roundabout has been retrieved.
The horrific incident occurred at 11 pm on Sunday when a minor boy Ibrahim, fell into an uncovered manhole in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi.
After a long search operation of 15 hours, rescue teams recovered Ibrahim’s body from the manhole on Monday afternoon near Federal Urdu University Gulshan Campus.
The Rescue 1122 officials said that the incident occurred when the family was leaving a store nearby. The child ran towards the road and landed in an open manhole.
The authority said that rescue operations faced difficulties due to the narrow sewage line. Rescuers attempted to drop a searcher into the manhole, but the limited space made it tough for them to continue the operation.
The mother of the child was seen crying and in severe distress, constantly urging the authorities to bring back his child.
Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Murad said that rescue institutions have been directed to search for the child “as soon as possible.”
He vowed that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the uncovered manhole, confirming that KMC staff and rescue teams are at the site.
Following the incident, the family became severely enraged, and a large number of citizens gathered at the spot, necessitating the deployment of additional police contingents.
