Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi (AIGP), Javed Alam Odho, said the operation would begin on Friday and target vehicles displaying fake, concealed or altered registration numbers.
It was revealed that any people had started using fake number plates to evade e-challans. Taking notice of this practice the Karachi police has decided to launch an operation.
Excise officers along with traffic police will be placed at all key avenues in the city and strict monitoring of vehicles will be observed.
Meanwhile the Sindh Transport Department has launched a crackdown on vehicles using fake fitness certificates to improve road safety.
Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has ordered cases to be registered against offenders and directed the PTA Secretary to submit a detailed report within three days. He also instructed that route permits of those involved should be cancelled.
Memon said some transporters were using fake fitness certificates to avoid physical inspections of their vehicles.
He warned that using counterfeit certificates is a serious legal violation and a major threat to public safety.
“No one will be allowed to compromise citizen safety,” he added, stressing that the practice is both illegal and a grave offence.
Sharjeel Memon reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a safe and transparent transport system, stressing that anyone caught in this illegal activity will face strict action without exception.
