Residents across Karachi are facing power outages even in areas previously exempt from load-shedding, as K-Electric has reportedly introduced scheduled power cuts due to an overloaded electricity system.
According to reports, several feeders connected to grid stations have been shut down, while the utility has introduced phased one-hour load-shedding in areas previously exempt from power cuts. Some localities have reportedly experienced outages lasting more than two hours.
Affected areas include Saddar, Clifton, DHA, Korangi, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and North Nazimabad. Residents of Malir, Landhi, SITE, Baldia, Mauripur, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Scheme 33 have also reported power disruptions.
Several parts of the Old City area and Razzaqabad are also experiencing prolonged outages, adding to the difficulties faced by residents.
K-Electric has attributed the situation to a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which has reduced electricity generation. The company said it was taking measures to manage the available supply.
The unexpected outages in load-shedding-exempt areas have raised concerns among residents already struggling with frequent power disruptions.
