Heavy rain disrupts Eid prayers across Karachi

Heavy rain with thunder and lightning affected several parts of Karachi on the first day of Eid ul Fitr, disrupting prayers in various areas.

The weather in the port city also turned pleasant during the early hours of Saturday.

Intermittent showers were reported in Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Saddar, and along I.I. Chundrigar Road, with some areas experiencing intense rainfall.

Areas including Federal B Area witnessed heavy rain along with strong winds, while Malir Halt, Rifa-e-Aam, and nearby localities experienced downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Rainfall was also recorded in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar, as dense clouds hovered over parts of the city and light to moderate showers continued at intervals.

In Defence View, electricity supply was disrupted shortly after the rain began, causing inconvenience for residents during Eid celebrations.

Yesterday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast the possibility of rain in Karachi on Eid ul Fitr, with chances of thunderstorms in the city and its outskirts on Saturday (today).

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Karachi on Thursday night, disrupting routine life across the metropolis.

Areas including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, North Karachi, SITE, Manghopir, and Nusrat Bhutto Colony received torrential showers. Similar conditions were reported in Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, and the FB Area.

Several key localities such as Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Lyari, Kharadar, and parts of the Old City area were inundated with rainwater following the intense spell.

The rain also affected Clifton and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), while parts of District East, including Korangi, Landhi, Malir, the Airport area, and Shahrah-e-Faisal, experienced heavy downpours.

In addition, a hailstorm was reported in parts of Keamari, adding to the severity of the weather conditions.

It is important to mention here that the death toll from heavy rains in Karachi reached 19.
