The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast stating that parts of Karachi and several other areas in Sindh are expected to experience light to heavy rain, with thunderstorms and gusty winds today, on February 17, 2026.
According to met office, a shallow westerly weather system is influencing the region, bringing these conditions primarily during the day and into the evening.
PMD officials said that showers in Karachi could occur particularly in the afternoon hours, around 2pm to 3pm, with potential for strong winds.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Karachi and other districts of Sindh, including Dadu, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Khairpur, starting from the evening/night of February 16 and continuing through February 17.
In a broader weather update, the PMD predicts light to moderate rainfall with strong winds and thunderstorms across large parts of Balochistan, affecting areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara, and Lasbela from the evening of February 16 through February 17, with occasional breaks.
Rain across Pakistan
Rain of different intensities is forecasted for the southern regions of Pakistan today with intermittent breaks in the new weather forecast.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave is currently affecting the southwestern and central areas of Pakistan, which is expected to continue for the next 18 to 24 hours.
Due to the new weather forecast, light to moderate rain is anticipated in the southern regions of the country on Tuesday.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mustung, Bar Khan, Sibbi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gawadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara, and Lasbella on Monday night and Tuesday, with occasional breaks.
