In the session, the Sindh CM reviewed and approved the costs of mega transport infrastructure projects. While addressing the cabinet, he said that ” the government has given a deadline for completion of the BRT Red Line project in the current year by June 2026.”

On the other hand, the provincial cabinet increased the cost of 21 kilometers long Yellow Line bus rapid transit under the Karachi Mobility Project to 620 million dollars.

Karachi’s University Road Closed

It is important to mention here that Karachi’s busy university road was earlier closed for daily commuters for nearly two months.

As per details, new digging and other work along the University Road were carried out under the Karachi Water and Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP), following the disruption caused by the Red Line BRT project.

According to the notification, the University Road section between Nipa Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University was closed from November 10 to December 30 for laying of the pipelines.

“The closure is necessary for laying new 96-inch and 72-inch pipelines as part of the K-IV augmentation plan,” said a the official.

“This stretch will form part of a new network that’s crucial for improving the city’s water supply.”

The project had installed a water network spanning nearly seven kilometers. The work was carried out in two phases: the first phase covered Nipa to Federal Urdu University, while the second phase extended from Hussain Square to Nipa Chowrangi.

The administration has urged commuters to plan alternate routes, as traffic congestion on University Road is expected to increase during the construction period.
