Karachi to host big-screen screenings of FIFA semi-finals and final

FIFA semi-finals and final

Sindh Sports Minister Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar has announced large-scale screenings of the FIFA semi-finals and final at Malir’s Sharafi Football Ground in Karachi.

Large screens will also be set up in Malir, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.

In addition, matches will be held at the Municipal Stadium and the Rohri Football Ground in Sukkur.

The minister added that World Cup football matches will also be screened at sports complexes in Ghotki and Thatta.

Lyari, Karachi’s historic working-class neighbourhood, has long been known as “Mini Brazil” for its unwavering support of Brazil’s national football team. The bond stems from shared socio-economic struggles, similarities with Brazil’s favelas, and a generations-long passion for football that has become part of the area’s identity.

During the FIFA World Cup, locals host massive watch parties, set off fireworks, and paint murals of Brazilian soccer stars on the neighborhood walls.

However, Brazil was knocked out by Norway in the Round of 16.

A day earlier, after winning the match against Norway, England advanced to the semi-finals and will face Argentina now.

The semi-finals will be played on June 15th and June 16th, and the final is set for Monday, June 20th, in New York.
