Karachi water supply suspended after K-electric cable theft

A major K-Electric cable that provides electricity to the North East Karachi (NEK) pumping station has been stolen, resulting in a temporary suspension of water supply in various crucial areas of the city.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) indicated that the theft took place at 11:00 AM, which immediately stopped pumping operations.

This shutdown has impacted water delivery in several neighborhoods, including Saddar, Clifton, Chanesar Goth, Surjani Town, and New Karachi.

K-Electric teams have been deployed and have commenced efforts to restore power to the station.

Officials from KWSC mentioned that water supply to the affected regions will resume as soon as the electrical connection is restored.

The spokesperson also stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has now been filed against the suspects.

A bold robbery was reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D, where suspects posing as employees of a power utility company executed a planned heist within a residential building, as evidenced by CCTV footage.

CCTV footage of the incident has emerged, clearly depicting multiple armed individuals involved in the crime.

Initial investigations indicate that four suspects arrived in a truck and entered the building, while three of their accomplices waited in a nearby vehicle.

Residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13-D raised an alarm and attempted to confront the suspects during the incident. In response, an armed individual exited the standby vehicle and warned citizens to remain back, allowing the suspects to complete the robbery and escape the scene.
