KARACHI: Dense fog engulfed much of Karachi on Sunday, with several flight operations disrupted in the metropolis.

The fog brought a spell of winter weather to the city and forcing the diversion of several international flights from Jinnah International Airport.

Residents woke up to low visibility across Karachi, with fog reducing visibility to near zero on parts of the M-9 Motorway.

The haze affected numerous areas, including the Northern Bypass, University Road, Karimabad, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Defence, Surjani Town, and Sohrab Goth.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported the lowest temperature at 17.5°C, with humidity reaching 95% and a light northeast breeze at 7 km/h.

The department forecast mostly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with daytime highs expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C.

The fog resulted in the diversion of six international flights, with some rerouted to Muscat and at least one to Islamabad, according to the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA).

Islamabad rain

On the other hand, after a prolonged period of dry weather in Islamabad, the federal capital received its first rainfall, making the weather pleasant in the city and its surroundings.

As per details, the much-needed rain hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi early morning on Sunday (today).

A large number of people are expected to visit recreational spots, including Damn-i-Koh, Pir Sohawa, Lake View Park, Rawal Dam and Pakistan Monument with family to enjoy the pleasant weather.

Met Office weather forecast

The Meteorological Department stated that the spell of rain may continue intermittently, and strong winds may blow in Islamabad and other areas. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures.

According to the department, under the same weather system, rain along with snowfall is expected in Murree and the Galiyat, while snowfall is also likely in the upper areas of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, fog and smog are likely to persist in various plain areas of Punjab, which may affect visibility.

The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to remain cautious while traveling and to stay updated with the latest weather conditions.
