KARACHI: Karachi residents to witness a further drop in temperatures from tomorrow (Tuesday), as cooler weather has engulfed the metropolis.

Sindh Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider said that the current and upcoming weather patterns for Karachi and other parts of Pakistan to intensify further.

He said that dense fog blanketed the city on Sunday morning, a result of excess moisture in the air following recent monsoon rains nationwide. With very low wind speeds, this moisture settled near the ground, leading to reduced visibility.

Haider stated that a similar event occurred on March 1, 2023, when fog caused visibility to drop to zero in parts of Karachi. However, he said that no significant fog is expected in the city over the next 10 days.

The minimum temperature recorded today (Monday) was 14°C. Tomorrow, the forecast to range between 12°C and 14°C, and this range is likely to persist through December 31.

The city will see no rainfall during the next 10 days, with pleasant conditions prevailing in the final week of December. The first two weeks of January are expected to bring colder weather.

Haider also mentioned that a new weather system entered Pakistan on Sunday (December 21), bringing continued snowfall to the northern mountainous regions.

Power outage hits Karachi

On the other hand, several areas of Karachi are facing power outages as a major power breakdown occurred at the North East Karachi Pumping Station.

According to the Water Corporation spokesperson, the breakdown took place at the Old Pump House of the pumping station.

Electricity supply to the Old Pump House was cut off on Sunday, December 21, at 5:00 AM. Despite 22 hours having passed, the fault has still not been repaired.

Due to the prolonged power outage, water supply in various areas of Scheme 33 has been affected.
As a result of the breakdown, there is a shortage of 15 million gallons of water.
