The case of the giraffes recently imported for the Lahore Safari Zoo has taken a concerning turn after one of the animals died.
Twelve giraffes had been imported from South Africa a few months back. All of which were initially kept in quarantine at the Safari Zoo. This period of quarantine has now concluded.
Safari Park sources said that two of the giraffes had been weak and underweight since their arrival.
Despite being provided the same diet and environment as the others, both animals showed no significant growth and exhibited symptoms of stomach issues.
The Punjab government had allocated Rs 135 million for the project.
Of the 12 giraffes, nine were shifted to the Safari Park while three were moved to the Lahore Zoo.
Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Wildlife Department regarding the situation are still underway.
