Residents and transporters across Karachi will notice significant changes in their respective road infrastructure, as the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a comprehensive road rehabilitation programme across the city.
According to media reports, the estimated cost of this road rehabilitation programme is Rs 5.54 billion, aimed at improving urban transportation and upgrading infrastructure in a modern and sustainable manner. The roads were selected based on traffic pressure, public usage and their importance in daily transportation and economic activities.
Under the programme, 26 internal roads will be rehabilitated on a priority basis. These roads play a key role in connecting residential and commercial areas with Karachi’s major highways and are used daily by a large number of commuters. Tenders for the project have been issued, and practical work has already begun.
The selected roads are spread across various districts and towns of the city. Key roads included in the project are Olympian Islahuddin Road and Rabita Roads, Naqash Kazmi Road, Sardar Ali Sabri Road and Abiabad Road, Sehba Akhtar Road, UP Mor Road, Pir Bazar Road, Alamna Avenue, Rehmania Road, several blocks in Block B of North Nazimabad, Sakhi Hassan Street, 19-D Road, Roads No. 04 and 05, Badar Chowk Road, ZMC Road, Faqir Colony Road via Mominabad, Meesham Lee Road, Mission Road, Chand Bibi Road, Jinnah Square, Liaquat Market, Khokhrapar Dakkhana Road, Liaquat Road, Mehran Depore Road and Hashim Raza Road.
The rehabilitation work will focus on improving road surfaces, enhancing durability, easing traffic flow and increasing overall road safety for commuters.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said the initiative reflects the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to Karachi and its residents. “Our mission is to transform Karachi through sustainable development and effective governance. These road rehabilitation projects are an important step towards making Karachi once again a vibrant, better connected and livable city of lights,” he said.
