US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday, during talks with Central Asian leaders at the White House, that Kazakhstan will be the first country to join the Abraham Accords during his second term.
President Trump said he had spoken with the Prime Minister of Israel and President of Kazakhstan regarding the development, adding that more countries are expected to follow in the coming months. He described the move as a “breakthrough” that could help promote lasting peace in the region.
According to the US administration, Kazakhstan’s inclusion in the accords is expected to revive the normalization process that had stalled following the Gaza war.
The decision is largely seen as a symbolic step, as Kazakhstan already maintains diplomatic and economic relations with Israel.
Among Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan also share close ties with Israel. Moreover they are considered as potential future signatories to the Abraham Accords, though their participation remains uncertain at this stage.
