His mother met his father when she was working in Beirut. His father was a geologist who earned his GED in prison in Hawaii for selling heroin at Hilo International Airport.  

Keanu and his mother were abandoned by his father when he was just three years old. His childhood did not have any stability as his mother was a costume designer and moved constantly. Similarly, his mother remarried multiple times. Reeves has lived in Toronto, Sydney and New York.

Reeves attended four different high schools, and he excelled as a hockey player. His childhood dream was to play professional hockey. He never finished high school due to his struggles with Dyslexia.

The first time he ever performed was in a school production of Romeo and Juliet, where he discovered his love of acting and then pursued a career in it.
