ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has called for publicly shooting people who steal manhole covers and are responsible for killing of innocent children.
He reacted strongly on X after a video showing the theft of a manhole cover went viral. The minister demanded that such individuals be taken to the spot and shot, saying they are responsible for the deaths of innocent children.
He wrote on X that if these people have been caught on video, they should be brought to the crime scene and shot because they are “killers of innocent children.”
The minister added that if no action is taken even after this video, then the system itself becomes an accomplice in the killing of these children.
A few days ago, a three-year-old boy named Ibrahim had fallen into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi in Karachi and went missing.
His body was found 15 hours later by a child who was collecting garbage.
Following the incident, the Karachi mayor apologised, and as a punitive step, the SSP East, Deputy Commissioner, and eight officers from KMC, Water Board, and other relevant departments were transferred.
