India using Afghanistan for proxy war, says Khawaja Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Afghanistan has become a proxy for India, and India is conducting proxy warfare through Afghanistan.

In an interview, he said that both the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban are being supported by India. He added that Pakistan wants peace in the region and seeks to act as a good neighbour.

Khawaja Asif stressed that national interests should be prioritised over personal interests.

The Defence Minister also said that the Pakistan Army defeated India and “brought its arrogance to the ground,” adding that India will not dare to attack Pakistan again.

A day earlier, MOFA Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi revealed that cross-border aggression and terrorist infiltration attempts from the Afghan side have continued unabated despite Pakistan’s goodwill gesture of a temporary pause, announced in March 2026.

Since the last Eid al-Fitr, 52 civilians have been martyred and 84 injured due to cross-border shelling and indiscriminate targeting of civilians by the Afghan Taliban regime.

Pakistan has categorically rejected the social media statement of the British Special Representative regarding the recent situation on the border with Afghanistan, terming it contrary to ground realities.

Responding to media queries, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said the post by the British representative SRA is one-sided and completely ignores the real causes of the ongoing border tensions. He stressed that such statements undermine Pakistan’s unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and do not reflect an objective perspective.

Tahir Andrabi stated the following. “We have seen the social media post by the British SRA regarding developments along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The one-sided remarks are devoid of a deeper understanding of the situation along the border’ he added.
