This incident comes two weeks after a first semester pharmacy student attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of the University of Lahore (UOL) on 5 January. The student suffered fractures and a minor head injury.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran said that the student was talking to someone over a phone call about half an hour before the incident. He later confirmed that she jumped during the call.
As a result, the university decided to suspend its on-campus classes.
Another similar incident occurred a month ago where a 22 year old Pharm-D student at UOL ended his life after jumping from the fourth floor of the university’s building on December 19.
Friends and family of the Pharm-D student claimed the student faced embarrassment due to low attendance in a subject.
Punjab School and Higher Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter and to submit a report accordingly.
Following the death of the student, protests erupted against the administration of the private university where students claimed that the deceased was denied to sit in an examination over an attendance problem.
