Punjab Police have stepped up action against illegal kite flying across the province, arresting thousands of people for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act.
According to a police spokesperson, 11,397 people have been arrested across Punjab this year, while 10,849 cases have been registered.
Police have also recovered 599,340 kites during operations against people involved in illegal kite flying and related activities.
Lahore recorded a large number of arrests during the police operations.
5,740 people were arrested in the provincial capital, while 5,466 cases were registered.
Police also recovered more than 217,000 kites and 7,875 string reels, commonly called charkhis, from Lahore.
Punjab Inspector General of Police has directed officers to continue strict action against illegal kite flying throughout the province.
He said violations of the law would not be tolerated.
Police have also been ordered to arrest people involved in selling dangerous metal strings and running illegal online kite businesses.
Such strings can cause serious injuries, particularly to motorcyclists and pedestrians.
Punjab prepares for Basant 2027
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a 10-day Basant festival across the province.
The celebrations are scheduled from January 29 to February 7, 2027, to mark the arrival of the new year.
Authorities in Lahore have asked residents to complete safety preparations before Basant 2027.
Officials said these measures are intended to protect people and reduce accidents during the celebrations.
The Lahore district administration has also banned the transportation of kite-flying materials through courier companies and other transport services within the city.
Meanwhile, registration for Basant 2027 has begun through the Punjab government’s dedicated Basant Portal, but the current registration phase is specifically for kite and kite-string manufacturers.
