The 17th edition of the Karachi Literature Festival, themed ‘Literature in a Fragile World,” will be held from February 6 to 8. The three-day event will be open to the public with free entry.
Oxford University Press Pakistan will organise the event.
The festival will bring together more than 200 delegates from eight countries and feature over 90 sessions.
The programme includes the launch of 28 books in three languages, along with screenings of two documentaries and two feature films.
The festival seeks to promote ideas, imagination and dialogue at a time when literature plays a crucial role in fostering empathy and resilience.
Discussions this year will focus on how stories, poetry, and critical thought respond to social, political, and cultural instability in a rapidly changing world.
Speaking about the objectives of the festival, Arshad Saeed Hussain, Managing Director of Oxford University Press Pakistan, said that literature remains one of the few spaces where people can freely question beliefs and express ideas without fear in an increasingly divided world.
Keynote addresses will be delivered by Senator Sherry Rehman, writer Muhammad Hanif, scholar Nasir Abbas Nayyar, and poet Khurshid Rizvi.
It is worth mentioning here that Karachi Literature Festival is an annual international literary event held in Karachi, Pakistan.
The inaugural Karachi Literature Festival was organised in March 2010 by Oxford University Press Pakistan in collaboration with the British Council.
Following the success of its first two editions in 2010 and 2011, the Children’s Literature Festival (CLF) was launched in 2011.
The growing momentum generated by KLF also led to the establishment of other major literary events across Pakistan, including the Islamabad Literature Festival in 2013 and the Teachers’ Literature Festival in 2014, with several more festivals emerging in subsequent years inspired by its success.
