Kohistan corruption scandal

In 2025, a large scale corruption scandal emerged in Upper Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The scandal revolved around the alleged embezzlement of public funds from government treasury accounts.

One of the accounts, Security and Deposit Works KP 10113, was found to have suspicious activity with surprisingly high amounts of withdrawals between the years, 2018 to 2024.

Later that year, NAB requested a remand of the suspects accused in the case where the accused included officials of district accounts, communication and works department and commercial banks.

The authority also stated that the accused had abused their authority while committing theft and creating fake documents through which funds were acquired from the accounts.
