The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly has passed the FY2026–27 budget by a majority vote, as opposition lawmakers staged noisy protests during the session.
During the budget session, Provincial Minister for Law and Finance, Aftab Alam, along with ministers from various departments, presented separate motions seeking approval for a total of 66 demands for grants. All the demands were approved by the house through a majority vote.
While approving amendments to the Annual Development Programme, the assembly also sanctioned an allocation of Rs627.9 million for its operational expenses.
Under the approved budget, substantial allocations have been made to various departments, with the largest shares going to the health and law-and-order sectors.
According to the budget, the Health Department has been allocated Rs262.062 billion, while Rs138 billion has been earmarked for the police department.
Similarly, Rs52.46 billion has been allocated to the higher education sector to further strengthen education and healthcare services across the province.
Among other departmental allocations, Rs14.73 billion has been approved for the Finance Department, Rs11.27 billion for the Irrigation Department, Rs7.77 billion for the Communications Department, and more than Rs4.56 billion for the Home Department.
In addition, Rs2.27 billion has been allocated to the Mineral Development Department, while Rs1.24 billion has been set aside for the Population Welfare Department.
The provincial government stated that the budget and development programmes will play a significant role in improving infrastructure, enhancing public services, and promoting economic activity throughout the province.
