Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Fakhar Alam Irfan has directed government officials to improve their performance, ensure punctuality and prioritise public service, warning that negligence and corruption will not be tolerated.

According to sources, Dr Fakhar Alam Irfan issued these directives during the first formal meeting with the province’s senior officials under his chairmanship.

The chief secretary stressed the need to dispel the perception in other provinces that government officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa do not perform their duties effectively. He urged all officials to work diligently and demonstrate their performance through practical results.

He also ordered an end to the practice of arriving late at government offices, directing all officials to reach their workplaces before 9:00 am. Emphasising the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Dr Fakhar Alam Irfan warned that the government would not tolerate any form of malpractice under any circumstances. He further stated that government officials should focus on delivering results rather than seeking personal publicity.

He said that if the government was held accountable for wrongdoing, its officials should also ensure that credit was given for good performance. The chief secretary made it clear that officials who failed to perform their duties had no place in the province’s administrative system.

In another key directive, he ordered the immediate restoration of telephone connections in government offices that had been disconnected over the past few years, aiming to facilitate public access to government departments.

He emphasised that government officials’ primary responsibility was to improve public service delivery and resolve citizens’ problems promptly. Dr Fakhar Alam Irfan also announced that he would soon visit government offices across the province to review their functioning. The chief secretary issued clear instructions to ensure that public facilities were improved and citizens’ complaints and issues were addressed effectively, sources added.
