The trend of using fancy number plates is gaining momentum in the country as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has formally announced the auction of fancy vehicle number plates bearing the names of country’s top political and national figures, including President Asif Ali Zardari, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other influential personalities.
The KP Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Syed Fakhar Jehan has revealed this while speaking to a private TV Channel. He stated that the auction will be held on January 27 at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar.
“The initiative aims to generate revenue for the provincial exchequer while offering vehicle owners a chance to acquire unique and customised number plates’ he answered a question.
According to the minister, bidding for the fancy number plates will begin at Rs1 million. The highest bidder will be awarded a number plate carrying the name of their preferred political or national figure.
Fakhar Jahan said that the auction will be conducted in phases and will later include number plates named after other national leaders, renowned personalities, regions, and countries. He added that vehicle owners have shown keen interest in the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward increasing government revenue.
The Excise and Taxation Department of KP has issued a formal advertisement for the auction. Citizens interested in participating can submit their applications through the Dastak app. Officials said the deadline for submitting applications is January 26, 2026, while the auction process will follow according to the announced schedule.
