A proposal to increase the salaries and allowances of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police officers has been sent to the provincial governor.
The proposal also highlights the need to improve police equipment and provide better resources to officers.
KP Police personnel to receive a special security challenge allowance based on the areas where they serve.
The proposed allowance would be different for officers working in southern districts, merged districts, other settled districts and the Hazara region.
Proposed salary allowances for KP Police
- 120 per cent security challenge allowance for police officers serving in the southern and merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- An allowance equal to 100 per cent of their basic salary for officers working in other settled districts
- Police personnel serving in the Hazara region would receive a security challenge allowance equal to 75 per cent of their basic salary
These allowances are intended to provide additional financial support to police officers facing different security challenges.
The proposal also highlights that KP Police salaries remain lower than those offered to police personnel in other provinces.
The proposal states that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have been fighting terrorism for nearly three decades.
Police officers have faced serious security threats while carrying out their duties, during this period.
Many officers have also made sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Despite these challenges, police salaries remain lower than those in other provinces.
The proposal also recommends modernising police equipment and other essential resources.
The proposed security challenge allowances would result in additional monthly expenditure exceeding Rs5.15 billion.
The summary also seeks the release of funds allocated for police procurement in the fiscal year 2026–27 to address shortages of weapons, protective equipment, surveillance systems and transport.
More than Rs11.16 billion has been requested for police procurement in settled districts, while over Rs3.35 billion has been sought for the merged districts.
In addition, the summary seeks Rs13.87 billion in additional funding for weapons, modern equipment and transport.
The proposed procurement includes submachine guns, rifles, 5.56mm firearms, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drones, thermal weapon sights, binoculars, anti-drone guns and modern counter-drone systems.
The police force has also sought armoured personnel carriers and pickup vehicles to strengthen mobility and operational readiness.
The summary calls for the release of funds for ongoing police development schemes, technical upgrades and infrastructure projects.
The requests include Rs4.64 billion for 19 ongoing development projects, more than Rs2.74 billion for technical upgradation and procurement, and Rs4.841 billion for police schemes under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP).
The total amount sought for development projects and schemes is Rs12.22 billion.
However, the proposal remains under consideration.
