It’s been three decades since the death of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, however some fresh claims surrounding his death have reignited controversy.
A forensics specialist has urged the authorities to reopen the case.
A forensic expert, Brian Burnett was working alongside a team of private researchers called the Seattle Police Department to re-examine Cobain’s 1997 death.
The forensic expert has argued that the autopsy does not align with a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
On April 5, 1997, Cobain was found dead in his home at Seattle, he was 27 years old. The case ended with the ruling that the musician had committed suicide from shotgun wound.
This assumption has not been challenged for almost 30 years.
The forensic scientist and his team are now claiming that it is possible that Cobain may have been drugged without his knowledge and he actually died from a heroin overdose.
After that the scene was staged as a suicide.
Another independent researcher, Michelle Wilkins also raised concerns and said the elements of autopsy report raised questions.
She further added that necrosis of the brain and liver causes because of drug overdose and not because of a shotgun death.
Wilkins also questioned that Cobain at the time of his death due to being drugged must be incapacitated, making it impossible to shoot himself.
She said “He’s dying of an overdose. He can barely breathe, his blood isn’t circulating properly, He would essentially be in a coma. The logistics of him carrying this out just don’t add up.”
The King Country Medical Examiner’s office has dismissed these renewed claims and emphasised that no new evidence has been presented that would justify opening a 30-year-old case.
Over the years the Seattle Police Department has also rejected numerous requests to reopen the investigation.
