Kyle Walker has announced his retirement from international football with the England national football team on March 10th, thus ending a 14-year career of playing for the national side just four matches away from reaching the milestone of 100 matches.

The 35-year-old right-back played for over ten years for England, and was instrumental in one of the most competitive periods in England’s modern football history.

Over the course of his international career Walker represented England at five major tournaments and was part of the squad that took England to the final of the UEFA European Championship on two occasions.

Walker made his first appearance for England in 2011, and was soon a rock-solid member of the squad, one of the most reliable defending players in his team.

Known for his pace, defence awareness and his ability to attack the right wing.

His last outing for England was in a friendly game against the Senegal national football team in June.

Despite continuing to play at club level having made 27 Premier League appearances for Burnley F.C. in this season Walker was left out of recent squad for World Cup Qualifiers.

With the upcoming Football World Cup in three months, Walker confirmed his decision in a message he shared on Instagram.

“After over ten years of participating in international football on behalf of my country, I have made the decision to retire from international football. Playing for England was, and still is, the biggest honour of my career and something I will always be proud of,” Walker wrote.

He further thanked his teammates, coaches, managers and supporters that were a part of the journey, stating that the energy and encouragement from fans helped him push through some difficult moments.

Walker had a distinguished club career as well as playing for Manchester City F.C. and Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
