Air quality in Lahore turns hazardous amid rising smog

Smog levels reach to dangerous levels in Lahore

LAHORE: The air pollution in Lahore has increased to hazardous levels amid rising smog making the city the most polluted in the world.

As winter begins, air pollution and smog have once again gripped Punjab.

The intensity of air pollution in the provincial capital has increased to dangerous levels. According to the global ranking, Lahore has come first in the list of the most polluted cities in the world.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), the overall air quality in the city was recorded at 483, which is considered very harmful to human health.

The highest pollution was recorded in Gulberg II, where the AQI reached 764. 692 was recorded in Allama Iqbal Town, 626 on Raiwind Road, and 609 in Gulberg III.

Last year, authorities struggled to contain the worsening smog, which took a serious toll on public health. Lahore stayed blanketed in thick smog,  a toxic blend of fog and pollutants, mainly caused by vehicle emissions, low-grade diesel, and seasonal crop burning as temperatures fell.

LAHORE WEATHER

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in the city is clear and sunny. At present, the temperature is 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded in the morning at 18 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature is likely to reach 30 degrees Celsius during the day. Winds are blowing at a speed of 2 kilometers per hour in the city.

According to experts, current air pollution can cause respiratory, eye, and throat diseases for citizens, so instructions have been issued to avoid leaving their homes unnecessarily.
