Lahore manhole incident: Woman’s body recovered, search on for child

Rescue teams have found the woman’s body, who, along with her daughter, allegedly fell into a manhole near Bhati Gate, Lahore. However, a police official confirmed that the search operation is continued to find the body of a child.


Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran said while speaking to the media that the woman’s body was found from the sewerage pipeline, which is three kilometres away from the manhole.

The DIG said that due to the heavy flow of sewage, the dead body travelled that far. He also confirmed that the top police officials and security individuals are looking into the matter carefully.

Faisal Kamran said that, on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, the heads of all relevant departments are on the ground and investigating the matter

A mother and her daughter reportedly fell into a sewer near Parinda Market, Bhati Gate in Lahore on Wednesday.

The incident has prompted the rescue teams to begin search and recovery efforts, which are still underway, according to the latest reports.

According to the details, the daughter is a 9-month-old child.

According to the sources, the authorities had left the manhole open during excavation.

Officials said the incident occurred due to poor visibility in the dark. Rescue authorities have launched operations to locate and safely retrieve the two.
