Hazards
Health officials have warned that long exposure to polluted air is dangerous. Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or heart problems are at the highest risk.
Residents are advised to stay indoors and wear masks when going outside.
Dense fog has made the smog problem worse and disrupted travel on many roads.
A major section of the M-5 Motorway, from Multan’s Shershah Interchange to Zahir Pir, was closed.
Parts of the M-1 from Peshawar to Burhan were also shut due to low visibility.
A Motorway Police spokesperson said visibility on these routes had fallen to unsafe levels, forcing authorities to halt traffic as a precaution.
Motorists were advised to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and avoid unnecessary travel.
Officials noted that the safest travel times in foggy conditions are between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Authorities emphasised that the closures are temporary and urged the public to follow safety guidelines until conditions improve.
