A female student of University of Lahore who attempted suicide has regained consciousness after staying on ventilator for several days.

21-year-old Fatima, a student of Pharma-D attempted suicide by jumping off the second floor of her department. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to university hospital in critical condition.

Head of the medical board Prof. Dr. Jawdat Saleem said in an important briefing that the victim’s health is much better now.

He stated that the female student has been removed from ventilator and is breathing without any oxygen support.

The special medical board has also allowed the student’s family to speak to her under special medical condition. Spinal Vertebrae operation is also expected on the Monday morning, the professor added.

Lahore female student’s suicide case takes new twist

Earlier, the case of suicide attempt of the University of Lahore female student took a new turn.

According to police officials, an alleged suspect identified as Ahmed Bilal was arrested in Narang Mandi area of the Sheikhupura district.

The police revealed in their report that the student who attempted suicide wanted to marry Ahmed Bilal. The family of the student was against the marriage, which eventually led to the unfortunate incident.

The victim’s parents insisted that she should continue her studies instead of marrying Bilal. The investigation revealed that Bilal’s arrest was made after his number was found in Fatima’s phone. The last person she spoke to was Bilal, and then she deleted his number before attempting suicide.

Initial investigation

Earlier, initial investigations revealed that the girl was unhappy with her grades and had informed her parents about the difficulties she was facing in her studies. In her latest exam she secured 18 number out of 35.

On the day of the incident, Fatima had arrived at the university at 7:58 am but did not attend her class.

Police also found that she made a call to someone and talked for half and hour before she jumped but had deleted the number.

No university pressure

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran earlier said that there was no pressure on the student of the University of Lahore who tried to commit suicide.

The police questioned the injured student’s classmates as well as the university administration as part of the ongoing investigation, and there is no apparent administrative problem at the university linked to the incident. 

According to the DIG, the student may have been facing some form of domestic or personal stress.

What happened on that day?

A girl reportedly attempted suicide and jumped from second floor of a private university in Lahore.

As per details, the girl was identified as 21-year-old Fatima, who is a Pharm D student at University of Lahore.

The student was rushed to the university hospital in critical condition.
