Lando Norris Wins Mexico City GP and Leads F1 Title Race

Lando Norris celebrates Mexico City GP victory at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

Lando Norris won the Mexico City GP, a big car race held in Mexico City yesterday, his calm, mistake free drive put him at the top of the F1 title race.

He started first on the grid (this is called “pole position,” meaning the quickest driver in qualifying) and stayed in front all the way to the finish.

What is an F1 race?

Formula 1, often called F1, is the highest level of single seater car racing. Twenty drivers race fast cars around a track for a set number of laps.

Drivers earn points based on where they finish. Those points add up across the year to decide the world champion. Teams also collect points for a separate team championship.

What is the Mexico City GP?

A “GP” is short for Grand Prix, which means a race. The Mexico City Grand Prix is the F1 race held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Mexico City sits at high altitude, so the air is thin. That makes it harder for engines and drivers, and also it can change how tyres and brakes work.

Lando Norris championship lead

Behind Norris, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished second, and Max Verstappen came third.

A short “Virtual Safety Car” period near the end slowed the cars but did not change the order at the front.

Norris’s win matters for the season: he leads the championship by one point from his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, while Verstappen is 36 points behind.

Norris’s season has had ups and downs, including a race where his car failed earlier in the year. Since then, he has put together steady results.

In Mexico, he managed his tyres (the rubber wheels that wear out as you drive) and his pace (how fast he chose to go) with control.

There were other inspiring stories too at the Mexico City GP. Young driver Oliver Bearman finished a career best fourth for the Haas team.

Piastri ended the day in fifth after starting farther back. Kimi Antonelli and George Russell took sixth and seventh for Mercedes, and Lewis Hamilton was eighth after a time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage during a fight for position.

Lando Norris won the Mexico City GP and now leads the F1 title race with four events to go. The battle for the championship is close, and every race matters.
