Web desk: In a major development for Pakistan–Japan relations, the Japanese government has announced new opportunities for Pakistanis aspiring to work in Japan.
As part of this initiative, the Japan Foundation has introduced a “Test for Basic Japanese (TBJ)” that is now a mandatory requirement for inclusion in Japan’s work visa programme.
According to details, the test will be conducted in Islamabad to evaluate candidates’ fundamental communication skills in the Japanese language.
The administration confirmed that the exam will take place on four dates: October 4, October 11, November 1, and November 8, 2025. The venue has been set as SKans School of Accountancy, located in F-8 Markaz, Islamabad.
The organisers have limited the intake to a maximum of 500 candidates for this round of testing.
Officials explained that passing the test is an essential condition for Pakistani applicants to qualify for Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) Programme.
The programme allows successful candidates to reside in and work in Japan. To address skills gaps in a number of sectors, including construction, caregiving, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The move is expected to create a wide range of job opportunities among Pakistani youth.
The Japanese government is trying to make the incorporation into Japanese society easier and more successful by ensuring that the candidates can communicate in basic Japanese.
The new language test is an extension of an improved strategy by Japan of attracting skilled foreign workers and, at the same time, facilitating the sharing of culture.
In the case of Pakistan, the project will experience less pressure on unemployment. And provide its labour force with an opportunity to enjoy the high economy of Japan.
As the need for skilled labour in Japan has increased. Experts emphasise that the young people of Pakistan could be central in fulfilling this demand.
